Ko I and Theta: A Day in the Life

His eyes were closed, but he felt Theta’s hand brush across his face, pushing his ginger hair out of his eyes. He tried to hum out the drums, but they were stronger.

Once the maitre d’ came, though, it quieted down.

The maître d’ led them to their table—or booth, rather—and they were left to the quiet of the restaurant, Theta looked across the table and tried to gauge Koschei’s mental state at that moment.

"{Are you feeling any better?}" He asked quietly.

"{Yes.}" The host was uncomfortable because of their foreign language.

"We’ll need a moment." He says as he is handed the menu.

He looks it over - http://www.gordonramsay.com/media/136419/york___albany_a_la_carte_menu.pdf -

"I am rather tired, my dear. But very hungry."

"I would have guessed, what with the drastic time change and all." He grins, glancing down at the menu. "Missed you, Ko." He skims the menu quickly, eyebrows furrowing at the words. He thought he was a decent English speaker by now, but this was like a whole other language.

"You’ve been here before, right? What’s good?"

"10 minutes, sirs."

He knew Mycroft’s name would get them a seat. He sat down at a spacious and soft waiting seat. Almost seemed unused, one wasn’t supposed to show up without a reservation.

"My dear, aren’t you going to sit?"

"Oh! Um, yeah." Theta sat down next to Koschei quickly, blushing.  "Sorry, I was a little bit distracted." The seat was ridiculously comfortable, and Theta scooched closer to Koschei so he could lean on the taller Gallifreyan’s shoulder.

Ko smiled. “Well, waiting isn’t my strong suit.” It had been less than a minute and his knee was already bouncing. You might have thought it was Ko who’d always had the urge to run.

He grabbed Thete’s knee to brace himself and leaned his own head on his husband’s and breathed deeply.

{Drums.}

Theta reached up to brush the hair out of his husband’s face, fingers lingering at Ko’s temples. He didn’t reply psycho-verbally to the statement, instead offering him feelings of quiet-comfort-you-can-do-it. He twined their fingers together gently, sitting in silence.

[TEXT]: Sure. Any kind specifically?

"I’m sure. Don’t worry, I got a job." He took a bite of the chocolate bar, chewing thoughtfully.

Susan’s brow furrowed upward as she looked over at him. “You did? Like a job that pays money. Money as in earth currency.”

"Yeah!" He grinned. "It’s at this cute little tea shop not too far from Ko and I’s."

"Wait. You’ve been working somewhere where I could visit you and you never bothered to mention it to me?!" Susan laughed.

"Well I only just got the job!" Theta protested, movie pretty much forgotten. "And I’ve been back from Europe since not much before that, so most of my free time was unpacking and sleeping off the time difference. What’s the point of time zones, even?"

{I’ll admit, I borrowed it from someone else, but I liked it.}

As they round the corner Koschei flicks the lights on the street back to their normal luminescence and, right across the intersection, is their destination.

Ko pulls the door open for his husband as they approach.

"After you, my dear Theta."

Once they reach the host, Koschei makes himself known. “Table for 2, Theta Sigma and Koschei Oakdown, assistant of Mr. Mycroft Holmes.”

"Thank you, Ko." He flashed his husband a grin as he walked in, and… damn. This place was so fancy. It was the sort of place with artistically dimmed lights that didn’t look stupid and a main dining place that was so quiet you could hear the live string quartet in the corner playing softly.

"Oh, wow." Theta breathed, glancing back at his husband with wide eyes. A small waterfall trickled over some expensive-looking rock in the corner.

"It’s so fancy!" Theta whispered as the maître d’ wrote them down.

{There’s a particular pair of denim wrapped nightmares on the loose over there. Got far too much leeway from their government, we set some people on their tails. Should be handled by the end of the year.}

He draws the sonic and cranks up the light on the streetlamps until the street seems illuminated like it were midmorning.

"Any better my dear?" While he did it, he also made sure to hack their walk out of the cctv cameras. Mycroft might know more than your average human, but he didn’t know Ko was an alien, and Sonic technology being in his possession would throw up red flags.

{Denim wrapped nightmares.} Theta giggled. {That’s a silly term. Fits, though.}

"Much. Thank you, Ko." He grinned, raising to tiptoe to kiss his husband on the cheek without breaking stride.

"Well, yeah." He laughed along.

"How much do I owe you for that, by the way?"

"Nothing. It was on way cheap because you know, day after halloween. I’ll cover it."

"You sure? I don’t wanna, like, make you broke or something." She said, taking another butterfingers.

"I’m sure. Don’t worry, I got a job." He took a bite of the chocolate bar, chewing thoughtfully.
